Painting The Canadian Dollar was terrifying and exhilarating for me all at once. I had painted every detail surrounding the space where Her Majesty was placed on the dollar and then I stopped. The daunting task of how to paint Queen Elizabeth II felt overwhelming. The wonky painting style I incorporate can be free and silly, but I wanted so deeply to paint our Queen with the honour and respect she deserves. When I finished this I cried. I feel like this piece has a signature Canadian element, but also encapsulates my fascination and appreciation for Canada’s bond to England. This was one of the last dollar bills printed in Canada before it was taken out of circulation. I felt the need to mark that moment.~Dawn
