1st Edition - Hardcover - E Harrison, London - 1868 - Condition: Fair - Undated, the British Library date this 254 Part Penny Dreadful, as being published weekly from 1866-1868, here bound in two volumes, running to well over 2000 pages, this example originally from Lloyd & Co?s Circulating Library of 193 Fratton Road, Portsmouth with their bookplates. Bound in old plain binders cloth, a tale of rollicking high adventure with the Highwayman Dick Turpin and his horse ?Black Bess?, text printed in double columns with an illustration to the opening page of each part. The cloth bindings are in solid condition but the cloth to volume one is heavily discoloured, with marking to cloth on volume two, internally the cheap paper stock has browned throughout with noticeable strengthening repairs to a number of page edges (see pictures) one page has a clean long horizontal tear, and the last but one page in volume two has corner loss to one page affecting some words of the text (both are pictured) a few other small clean edge tears and noticeable creasing to a few pages else contents in good general condition. This is a heavy pair of books, around 3.5 kilos packed, overseas shipping costs may be higher than the basic standard one kilo quote - BLACK BESS; THE KNIGHT OF THE ROAD.
